Teach an Old Dress New Tricks!

We all have that old dress that sits in the back of our closet just waiting for the day we decide to bust it out..... but it just never happens.. why could this be??? I've been trying to figure it out, and here is what I've come up with. I bought this dress for a  new year's eve dinner proabably about four years ago now, it's actually only been worn out in public about twice if I remember correctly.

I think I never wear it because just by itself it's way too dressy, and both times I wore the exactly the same way, the way I bought it, no extra personality added... now I  don't always feel the need to add "personality" to a dress, but when you've become bored of your dress, it's time to find it's full potential and  arrange some new ways to wear it!

Once I started mixing and matching my dress with my accessories, I realized that there were many more ways to wear this simple dress than i could have ever realised. This dress was very simple to make new outfits with because it is completely plain, neutral with very little detail. Which gave me freedom to mix and match colours with ease.

I was actually quite surprised how much I loved my new looks and how easy they were to arrange. I learned a valuable lesson today, you can teach an Old dress new tricks!!!

Finding Mintspiration

I went shopping with my good friend Natalie, and I was supposed to be helping her find a dress and low and behold I managed to find one for myself, well I had an armful to try on so the chances  of me finding one were pretty good. It just so happened by chance that the most  stunning one, a mint one shoulder dress, fit the best out of all of them, the lines seemed to fit perfect to my body. How could I not buy it? Even Nat was like,
" WOAH YOU SO HAVE TO BUY THAT DRESS"

So I did, and I took it home and I was so excited and I felt so inspired by my new mint dress that the moment I got home I began to mix and match my new mint dress with my accessories and shoes! It took me about an hour but I created 10 great ways to wear my spectacular mint dress. The next time I am busy getting ready and I want to wear my mint dress I won't even have to think because I have invented some great looks already with this dress ahead of time I can just throw it all on and won't even have to debate if it looks good or not!  When I am under pressure to get ready I can never make a decision on time and always end up choosing the easiest "safe"  option. This way my choices are easy, I pick an already arranged outfit that suits my mood that day. Also planning and coordinating outfits regularly actually makes it easier to mix and match on the spot because you already kinda have an idea of what accessories/shoes work with what colours you have in your closet.

Mint came back into fashion this summer season and I hope it sticks around. Mint has always been a favourite of mine. I swear the colour mint evens out my skin tone and makes me look way more tanned than I actually am, and for my pastie white ass that's a great thing!

I used to own a mint double breasted  cropped mint jacket, it was honestly one of my most favourite pieces of clothing of all time. That is until a rogue pair of pink panties got mixed into my lights and brights laundry load and my mint jacket came out with pink splotches all over. I tried everything to get the pink out but the splotches wouldn't budge the jacket was ruined. It was a sad day in North York the day my mint jacket died.... RIP

Stay tuned there are already more mintspirational outfits in production and I have a feeling there will be even more in the near future!

If the Jacket Fits then Wear it!

My white linen suit jacket is the perfect summer item, linen is a natural fiber and lets your skin breathe, aka allows sweat to escape, keeping you dry on those sticky days. Although it's much to hot to wear a jacket while the sun is shining here I think my white jacket will be perfect for the breezy evenings by the sea.

I really think the jacket is something special but I've hardly worn it in the four plus years I've owned it!!! Money just sitting there wasting away!  I pulled it from my closet, and it still fit, so I began matching away. I tried to find blouses with a pattern that had white in them, in order to compliment and blend the jacket into the look.

In this outfit there are a lot of different elements working to keep the look cohesive. The scarf and necklace are what makes everything work together. The aqua scarf has pops of yellow, which compliments the yellow camisole and the necklace has dark wood, aqua and light creamy yellow beads, which accents all the pieces in the wardrobe. This is what we call Fashion Feng Shui. The over all look is natural and earthy. This outfit would have to be my favorite look incorporating the white linen jacket, I would wear this any day of the week!

This patterned shirt, I love but have only worn it once since I bought it six months ago. Something about it, I just couldn't match it with anything until it met my white linen jacket! That's why " Like a good party, your clothing should mingle"

Until next time!

Break it With a Belt

I really love my tunic style, shirt dress it is lengthening, slimming,  made from cotton and I bought at a bargain price ($7 from Winners).  I really  feel like I could really get some more wear out of this dress, the only time I've worn it I felt a little plain, and not very put together.  So in attempt to wear my cute, cotton, tunic dress I have made two new outfits never before seen, that help complete and compliment the fabulous dress that I don't wear enough.

If it's so great then why  don't I wear it very often?? I thought about it and the dress it's self is quite simple, very plain, lots of brown.     This style of shirt gives me a very long torso and a big block of brown colour where my wait should be, making my upper body appear somewhat blockish. To combat this in both of the new outfits I have used belts to break up the brown and to define my waist, which makes my waist look smaller and my legs longer. Also, adding an extra punch of colour draws the eye in to the narrowest part of my waist making me look skinnier than I am. Which makes my tunic dress a very valuable treasure.

In my hunt for the Quadrillions of Possibilities I have found two new Outfits that I'll  be sure to wear. I've improved my wardrobe's flexibility once again by purchasing nothing!  So next time you walk by your closet pull out your shirt dress and break it up with a belt, or a scarf!!

Sports Shorts Disguised

I have this amazing pair of shorts that I absolutely love! They are everything I need in a pair of shorts; not too short, comfortable, flattering and fun! I really want to be able to wear them everyday, so I have created outfits that are great for any occasion.

These shorts are more on the sportier side, and tend to look extremely casual. Which is quite alright for some days, but most certainly not  for all. By pairing the causal, sporty shorts with other dressier pieces the over all look becomes fun and purposely put together.

I was surprised by the shorts versatility, despite their casualness, they worked together with pieces like my cropped grey suit jacket, which I never imagined could be possible! I just needed a little creativity, and in that moment these never seen and never worn before outfits were born.
     "GOLD!"
I tell you just sitting there in our closets waiting to be discovered.

My sporty shorts mingled with my business casual pieces until mix match harmonies were found and documented. All were happy on this glorious occasion, for I will forever be comfy and cool wearing my lightweight boarding shorts in disguise  as everyday fashionable clothing!  The flexibility of your sporty shorts will surprise you, they are the gymnasts in our closets!
